Dan makes first signings

Three new recruits strengthen Boston Town squad

New boss Dan Barrett has freshened up his squad with three new faces.

He has brought in striker Ricky Belding, midfielder James Playford and utility man Gary Cross.

Dan Woods is also returning from a loan spell at Grimsby Borough and will go straight into the Poachers' squad for tomorrow's tricky-looking league cup tie at high-flying Cogenhoe.

The new manager said: "Ricky is a player I have known for a long time as an opponent and a team mate. He has had a few up and down seasons and he will happily admit that. On his day Rick knows where the back of the net is. He will score goals.

All three of Boston's new recruits have previously been with Cleethorpes Town.

James Playford also represented the English Colleges FA national squad at the Under 17s Caput Mundi tournament in Rome last year.

Dan said: "James has so much potential. He has been on the fringe of a few pro clubs and I know clubs are still interested in him. Hopefully he will fulfil his potential with games under his belt.

"Gary is more of a player who will be helping out when we may be short midweek and so on. Gaz has a fiery side to his game that I like in a player, loves a tackle and pops up with goals.

"I can throw the lad on anywhere and you know he will do a job. I hope he will be able to commit full-time in the near future."

Town face a tough task to end their recent poor run of results - Cogenhoe are third in the UCL table, having won seven of their nine league games.

It will also be the Poachers' 11th away game out of 14 so far in a crazy fixture schedule. Happily, they are due to have a run of home games, including four in a row in the first half of November.
