Shaun Baker joins our Hall of Fame

Shaun Baker (Defender, 2003-14)

Whereas the Poachers drew a sizeable contingent from Sheffield in the late 70s and early 80s, in more recent years the club have attracted an influx of talent from the Grimsby area.

One of the pioneers of this link with north Lincolnshire was the redoutable Shaun Baker.

A commanding centre-back, he and the non-nonsense midfielder Nathan Collins made a massive difference to the solidity of the side when the pair of them arrived at Tattershall Road.

Bakes first established himself in the team in 2003-04 and soon became a hugely-reassuring and almost permanent presence in the Town defence - racking up more than 40 appearances in each of the following five seasons.

He went on to become one of only a handful of Poachers players to register more than 300 games for the club.

Bakes helped Town to lift three pieces of silverware - the United Counties League Cup in both 2003/04 (his first season with the club) and 2006/07 and also the Lincs Senior Trophy in 2008/09 after a memorable final against Winterton at Lincon city's Sincil bank ground.

And it was a treat for Boston fans to see him return for a brief spell at the end of last season once his old sparring partner Collins had taken over the manager's reins.
