Boston Town 1, Spalding Utd 3

Poachers beaten by Tulips in pre-season fixture

The Poachers came off second best against higher-grade opposition in their latest pre-season game.

Spalding United keeper Michael Duggan pulled off a great save to deny Aaron Eyett in the very first minute but the Northern Premier League side then took control.

Former Town midfielder George Zuerner netted twice in quick succession before Tom Waumsley made it 3-0.

Home keeper James Doughty was also forced into action to keep the score down before Lori Borbely converted a penalty after Alex Beck was bundled off the ball by Duggan.

Aris Placis fired wide as the Poachers got back on an even keel towards the interval.

The game petered out after the break, with Beck coming closest to scoring again for the hosts as his header forced another fine save from Duggan.

It was a satisfactory workout for Mark Angel's squad against a strong-looking Spalding side who defeated UCL rivals Holbeach 2-0 at the weekend.
