Alex opts to stay

Poachers' 16-goal striker turns down Holbeach approach

Boston Town have been given a boost after Alex Beck turned down the chance to move to Holbeach.

Tigers boss Tom Roberts had made a seven-day approach for the striker - but Beck has decided to stay at the DWB Stadium.

Roberts told the Spalding Voice: "I had a good chat with Alex and he’s decided to stay. Like I said last week, Boston are a close-knit group and I respect that."

Boston fans will be delighted to see Beck opting not to join a string of other ex-Poachers at Holbeach, including Aaron Eyett, Ricky Drury, Josh Ford, Nick Jackson and Ollie Pinner.

Beck has already scored 16 goals this season and is on course to pass the 20-goal mark for the club for the first time.

His previous best was the 18 he scored in the 2011-12 season. In all, Beck has 63 goals for the Poachers, more than anyone else in the current squad.

But Roberts hasn't ruled out making another move for him ahead of next season.

"I’ve told him that the door is open for him should he change his mind. We’ll certainly look to talk again in the summer," he added.
