Wattam goal not enough to prevent defeat

AFC R&D 2, Boston Town 1

A Lee Wattam goal wasn't enough to save Boston Town from slipping to a narrow defeat in front of a crowd of over 400.

The first half ended goalless despite plenty of chances at either end.

Jordan Nuttell was foiled by keeper Matt Finlay after being put through one-on-one while Matt Kennedy nearly converted a looping shot after a great run.

The Poachers were also denied what seemed a blatant penatly when George Zuerner was hacked down in the area (see picture, courtesy of AFCRDTV).

Two second half goals by Fazel Koriya put Diamonds 2-0 up but Wattam's long distance effort squirmed through Finlay's grasp but although the visitors ended the game strongly, they were unable to conjur an equaliser.

Remarkably, the fixture was Diamonds' FIRST home league game of the season - all five of their previous UCL encounters have been away from home.

Town: Drury, Lowe, Warren, Mitchell (Wattam), Ashton, Jackson, Lambley, Zuerner, Borbely (Eyett), Nuttell, Kennedy
