Town made it a festive two wins out of two on this final fixture of 2012 with a convincing win over reigning champions Long Buckby, writes David Holmes.

Last season's 7-1 mauling seemed a million miles away as the Poachers chalked up a deserved 3-0 victory.

The visitors started brightly, forcing two corners in the opening minutes but Town soon began to take control and look the more purposeful of the two sides. The hosts had a penalty appeal turned down with a quarter of an hour gone when Lori Borbely looked to have been tripped just inside the area and five minutes later Callum Stocks brought a fine save out of visiting keeper Daniel Farrell after being played through by the impressive Borbely.

Town finally broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Ben Good was upended by Bucks defender Liam O'Neill on the edge of the box. Josh Ford's free kick was charged down by the wall but his second attempt found Borbely who fired home from close range.

Both sides should be commended for playing passing football as the Tattershall Road pitch bravely withstood the morning's downpour. Town came close to increasing their lead when Farrell had to stretch to hold a Stocks chip after a neat move involving Matt Cotton and Borbely. Minutes later Good looped a header just wide, while Long Buckby's best chance fell to Melantus Mularkey who found space on the right and drilled a shot just wide five minutes from half time.

The second half saw the Poachers assert their dominance from the outset while the new-look back four dealt with any threats posed by the visitors. Loanee Cotton had an effort ruled out for offside before Town finally doubled their lead in the 53rd minutes with Jason Field's curling free kick deceiving Farrell who appeared unnerved by Good's presence.

The Poachers continued to pile on the pressure and finally put the game out of reach in the 76th minute when Cotton set up Good who slotted the ball past Farrell for Town's third. The final quarter of an hour was mostly one-way traffic with near misses from Stocks and Ford who tormented the visitors' defence with their attacking runs, while Cotton was denied by a point blank save from Farrell. Town had a second penalty appeal turned down two minutes from time when Ford was felled after latching onto a floated ball from Field but by then the job was done.

Town: Bastock, Leggett, Field, Maltby, Wood, Wilson, Borbely (Dunn), Cotton, Good, Ford, Stocks. Subs (unused): Hocking, Clancy, Lindberg
