Boston Town suffered a disappointing exit in the  KitmanUK League Cup.

Two first half goals were enough to give in-form Melton Town a place in the next round.

The Poachers were missing a number of key players in Richard Ford, Kyle Watkins, Jordan Tate, Chris Shipley, Ollie Pinner, Stacy Cartwright and Lori Borbely.

But they were still able to field a strong side in the absence of manager Gary Edgley, who was serving the last of his three-game ban.

Liam Harris made a welcome return from injury, his first appearance since August, while Ollie Luto made his first start since joining on loan from Stamford.

After going in 2-0 down at the break, the visitors had plenty of chances to get back into the game in the second half, with a Liam Tunstall shot being tipped over the bar and a Luke White effort hitting the post.

Town: Portas, Harris (Kyle Tate), Luto, Moulds, Cunliffe, Neil (Grainger), Beeson, White, Tunstall, Beck (Muirhead), Bayliss; unused sub: Holland
