It was a derby game to remember for Boston Town as they beat local rivals Sleaford Town 6-0 in the FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round. After last week’s exit in the FA Cup to Coalville Town, the Poachers were looking to get back to winning ways and get their first home victory of the season. They didn’t quite achieve that on Tuesday night when Boston hosted another local team, Holbeach United, in a league game. That match resulted in a 1-1 draw with Luke White scoring the only goal for the home team. This time, they faced Sleaford Town in the FA Vase with both teams looking to progress in the tournament. Throughout the whole 90 minutes, Boston controlled the play well with around 4 corners going their way in the first 15 minutes. 17 minutes in, Luke White had a shot saved by Sleaford keeper, Garry Duran and had another saved soon after. Boston’s dominance finally paid off in the 27th minute when a long ball was played over brilliantly to Tom Garrick who spectacularly lobbed the keeper with a finish worthy of goal of the season. Not long after the first goal, Fraser Bayliss’s solo effort ended up forcing Duran to make another save. This lead to Lee Beeson crossing the ball over to Richard Ford who headed home seconds later. 2-0 was the half time score. The second half began with Sleaford dominating for a small amount of time but Boston still managed to keep hold of their lead. It took the Poachers until the 73rd minute to find a 3rd goal when Tom Garrick scored his second goal of the match. From that point on , Boston Town went up to the next gear by scoring 3 goals in 12 minutes. Tom Garrick completed his hat-trick when he smashed the ball into the top left hand corner. Boston got a penalty when Harry Grigas was brought down by the keeper but after 2 Sleaford players being sinbined, Luke White had his penalty saved. However Boston made up for the penalty miss when Harry Grigas scored 2 goals in the last 3 minutes. His first ended up in the bottom right corner of the goal after some brilliant play before hand and then scored his second when Whites’s free kick hit the crossbar and then Grigas headed home the rebound. Full Time was Boston Town (Garrick 3, Grigas 2, Ford) 6-0 Sleaford Town. A comfortable afternoon for Boston Town and they will go onto play away at Anstey Nomads in the next round on October 10th. Before that the Poachers return to league action with a trip to Quorn on the 26th September. Then a trip to Pinchbeck United on the 30th. The next home game is against Wellingborough Town on the 3rd October.
