Match report by Tom Carter

A seven goal thriller saw Boston Town lose their first game of the season as Lutterworth Town beat them 4-3 in this United Counties League classic.

After a 3-2 win at Blackstones on Wednesday night in the FA Cup, Boston Town were looking for a second victory in a row as they started their United Counties League campaign at home to Lutterworth Town. Kick off was delayed by 10 minutes due to the away side arriving late and within the first few minutes of the game Lutterworth’s number six, Kade Lewis, was stretchered off after a nasty fall.

10 minutes into the game, Fraser Bayliss crossed a ball in from the right hand side with the delivery falling to the feet of new signing Harry Grigas who slotted the ball into the net to put Boston Town 1-0 up. A chance fell to the Grigas again but he hit the ball wide and then right down the other end of the pitch moments later, Lutterworth skipper Marshall Keenan weaved in and out of the Boston defence to equalise for the visitors.

The first half was full of goals with Harry Grigas scoring again for the Poachers after meeting Captain Lee Beeson’s free kick from the right. Boston Town’s lead only lasted for 3 minutes as Lutterworth scored a goal which looked like it went all the way in from a long distanced free kick. 2-2 after 29 minutes. Not long after their 2nd equaliser, Lutterworth scored another goal as there striker got past Travis Portas in goal for Boston Town. At half time Lutterworth led the Poachers 3-2.

In the second half, Boston Town had many chances and one of them did pay off when a free kick was whipped in and after a couples of headers, Fraser Bayliss scored from close ranger to equalise for the Poachers in the 73rd minute. There was plenty of time left for a Boston winner and they controlled the ball well. Bayliss was through on goal until his dribble was intercepted by a Lutterworth defender. Down the other end, the away team took their chance and led 4-3 as the ball was played forward well and eventually flicked on into the net. There was still a few minutes for Boston to get another a chance but it just wasn’t to be in a game where a draw would’ve been a fair result. Full Time was Boston Town (Grigas 2, Bayliss) 4-3 Lutterworth Town.

Boston Town play away to Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday night and next Saturday play at home in the FA Cup Preliminary Round to higher opposition in Coaville Town. Please come down and support the Poachers as they try and cause an upset.
