Boston Town kickstarted their league season with an emphatic win at fancied Wisbech.

Just as they did in the FA Cup on Saturday, they got off to the perfect start, with Will Britton netting after only four minutes.

Fraser Bayliss was on the scoresheet after 26 minutes to give the Poachers a 2-0 interval lead.

The Fenmen were among the pre-season favourites to be challenging for the United Counties League title. When they hammered Sleaford 9-1 last month and then dumped Spalding out of the FA Cup, that tag seemed to be justified although they've struggled since then.

They pulled one back early in the second half but a Richard Ford strike hailed by coach Gary Edgley as a "worldie" restored Boston's two-goal cushion.

This win stretches the Poachers' unbeaten run to six games - but despite their strong start to the season they remain at the wrong end of the table.

Boston Town are the only team to have played as few as three league games - but with four or even five games in hand over many other teams there is plenty of scope for them to move swiftly into the top half.
