Match report by Thomas Carter
It was both teams' first pre-season game. The Poachers had made quite a few summer signings and were hoping to get something out of the game. But with the likes of former Boston United players Gregg Smith and Craig Westcarr in the Grantham line-up, it was going to be a tough test.
The game started off with the possession being shared equally between the two teams. Lucas Sparrow and Lee Beeson were playing brilliantly down the right hand side and on the left, Boston's unnamed trialist was making skilful moves. One led to the home side nearly scoring but nobody could get their foot on the ball to tap in a goal.
Jack McGovern then put Grantham Town 1-0 up with a fine finish. Boston Town had some more chances which included a brilliant save from the Gingerbreads goal keeper. The half-time score was Boston Town 0-1 Grantham Town.
The second half included more of the same but Grantham’s second eleven played while wearing their pink away kit. Grantham had a few chances and so did Boston Town, whose were more on target.
Despite Boston Town playing better in the second half than they did in first half, their finishing needed to be more clinical. But apart from that it was a good performance with lots of positives coming from it like the trialist who continued to impress in the second half.
The full-time at the DWB Stadium was Boston Town 0-1 Grantham Town.
