Poacher miss out on glamour tie
Boston Town have been handed an FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round tie away at Dereham Town.
It follows their fabulous 2-0 triumph against Northern Premier League side Hednesford - arguably the club's best FA Cup win for 41 years.
The only other comparable victory since then was when Isthmian League Bishop's Stortford were humbled 5-2 in a replay in 1995-96. But that achievement was by a Boston Town side brimming with confidence after winning the United Counties League title just a few months earlier, whereas Gary Frost is currently rebuilding the team after several seasons in the doldrums.
Prior to that, the Poachers' biggest FA Cup scalp came in 1976 when Northern Premier League outfit Bangor City were beaten 1-0 by a Phil Scothorne goal, setting up a memorable 1st Round trip to Barnsley.
Two of the players from that FA Cup run - Dennis Reeson and Nobby Croston - were in the crowd to witness the win over Hednesford on Saturday.
The Poachers had been hoping for a plum tie against one of the big clubs entering the competition at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage such as Boston United, York City or Stockport County.
Isthmian League Division One North side Dereham are one step above Boston Town in the non-league structure, having been promoted three years ago from the Eastern Counties League. They've had a flying start to this season, having won all four league games so far.
The two clubs previously met in the FA Cup Preliminary Round in 2013-14 when Dereham won 3-1.
Dereham beat UCL side Yaxley 1-0 in the previous round and the 2nd Qualifying Round tie is scheduled to take place at Aldiss Park on Saturday 16 September.
