Could a Boston Town v Boston United clash be on the cards?

In the second part of our countdown to Saturday's clash against Hednesford, we look at past FA Cup glories

FA Cup heritage

The FA Cup has often raised the prospect of a possible clash between the two Boston clubs - but it's only ever happened once. In fact it was the only time we've ever met in a competitive fixture.

That was in an FA Cup tie in 1970, when after a close encounter the Pilgrims ran out winners by a flattering 4-0 scoreline in front of a record Tattershall Road crowd of 2,700.

A repeat encounter would be on the cards if Boston Town can knock out Hednesford as Boston United enter the FA Cup at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage this season.

The Poachers have also only once before reached the FA Cup 1st Round Proper, when the Football League clubs enter the fray. On that occasion in 1976 we famously led Barnsley 1-0 at half-time in front of 6,000 fans at Oakwell before eventually succumbing 3-1.
