Praise for new signings
Gary Edgley has hailed two of his new defenders after Boston Town made it four games unbeaten.
He singled out Liam Harris and Kyle Watkins for praise following their 1-0 win at Northampton ON Chenecks.
“We travelled to ON Chenecks to play them for the first time this season and were under no illusion as to how difficult a task it would be to get something from the game,” said the Poachers boss.
“They are a bit like us as they have strengthened over the last few weeks, they are playing very well and have had some very good results.
“We had four missing so I had to shuffle things around slightly but I feel I have very good strength in depth at the club at the minute and trusted those lads to come in and to do a good job for me, and they did.
“We have been starting games very quickly over the last month and again we were out of the traps well, scoring after only five minutes.
“The pitch was tough for both teams to play on but in all fairness Chenecks really took the game to us and we had to dig in for the next 25 minutes. I felt we got hold of the midfield for the last 15 minutes of the first half and looked very solid.
“I changed our shape at half-time and that definitely helped us as we then matched Chenecks in terms of possession and looked to counter on them when we could. They had one big chance in the second half which hit the outside of the post - after that my keeper didn’t have a save to make of note. This was mainly down to how well we defended and the work rate of the lads in front of them.
“I also want to talk briefly about two of my players - firstly, Liam Harris, my right back. This was his fourth game for me and he has been excellent in every game, very aggressive in a tackle, quick and also very comfortable on the ball - I think we have found a real diamond here.
“And Kyle Watkins, my centre half, is marshalling my defence so well. He’s a physically strong lad who can also play when needed, but he is talking and organising my back four, making them very tough to break down, and I don’t believe it to be any coincidence that we have conceded just one goal in four since these two lads joined us.
“This keeps our mini unbeaten run going and gives us a platform to work on going into next week’s local derby against Holbeach.”
