Travis Portas was in the thick of things as Boston Town were beaten in a heartbreaking finish.
Luke White fired the Poachers ahead at one of the toughest grounds to visit in the United Counties League with a cracking 20-yard effort midway through the first half.
Portas then saved a penalty just a couple of minutes later before the hosts levelled before the break.
And title-chasing Rugby went on to win it with two late goals.
They made it 2-1 seven minutes from the end, just as it looked like the visitors would hang on to what would have been a deserved point.
And in injury time they rubbed salt into Boston's wounds after Portas went up for a corner and was agonisingly close to an equaliser as he saw his powerful header cleared off the line.
Rugby then broke up to the other end of the pitch to score in an unguarded net - despite a seemingly obvious offside that wasn't spotted by any of the officials.
