Return to Wisbech

Boston Town are set to resume their rivalry with Wisbech Town after a gap of 5 years.

The last time the clubs met was when the Fenmen finished runners-up in the United Counties League in 2017-18, earning them promotion to the Northern Premier League.

The Poachers managed a league double over Wisbech that season, beating them 3-2 at home and 3-1 away.

Now the clubs meet again on Tuesday (30 August) following Wisbech’s relegation back to the UCL. Martyn Bunce’s side will be looking their first away win of the season to bounce back from their FA Vase exit.

Despite the relative proximity of Boston and Wisbech, the two clubs have only ever played each other 14 times.

After the first encounter in 1972 – a 2-0 FA Trophy win for Boston FC – there was a wait of 22 years before the next game in the East Anglian Cup. An FA Vase tie followed in 2006 before the clubs played each other regularly between 2013 and 2017 during Wisbech’s previous spell in the UCL.

Kick-off at Wisbech on Tuesday is 7.45pm.
