Poachers 6, Grantham Academy 0

By Tom Carter

Fraser Bayliss scored three as the Poachers hit six when they progressed into the next round of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy with a 6-0 win over Grantham Town Academy on Tuesday night.

The two sides met back in September in the UCL KO Cup with Boston winning 7-1 in that game. Martyn Bunce’s side were looking for a similar scoreline as the Academy team from the league below visited again. It was a very dominant start to the game for the hosts as only eight minutes in, Marshall Young was through on goal but shot wide after a fantastic ball by Jordan Tate. It was Young who put the Poachers 1-0 up as in the 21st minute when Luke Wilson put a fantastic ball in, he found Young’s feet who volleyed the ball into the net. A fantastic opening goal!

Five minutes later, Boston Town were themselves two to the good as Wilson was down the right again, put another splendid ball in and this time found Fraser Bayliss who tapped home to double the lead. GTA hardly created anything throughout the whole game and after Half Time, Boston found themselves 3-0 up and really put the game to bed. Bayliss came down the left hand side again and set up Logan Tate in the middle who got his second goal of the season. In a matter of minutes, the hosts had another. Bayliss got his second straight after Jordan Tate’s free kick deflected off the wall. 4-0!

It was a while before the Poacher got their last two. With twenty minutes to go, Liam Adams let rip with an outrageous strike which curled into the top left corner. A fantastic effort to make it five. In the 79th minute, Bayliss got his hat trick after the Grantham keeper let the ball go straight through him. Full Time was 6-0. In the next round, Boston could face one of Brigg, Winterton, Deeping, Pinchbeck, Skegness, Blackstones/Harrowby or Bottesford/Barton.

Next, the Poachers play away to Anstey Nomads on Sat 22nd Oct where they can go 4th as Sherwood Colliery and Heanor Town don’t play in the league.
