FFP shock for Boston Town

We hope you enjoyed our April Fools’ Day story – and thanks to those of you who commented favourably on social media! We can now reveal that of course there has been no FFP controversy, it was just a prank we cooked up for 1 April. If you missed it, you can read the original article in full here:

Boston Town are the latest club to become embroiled in an FFP controversy.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both been docked Premier League points for breaches of the FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules set out by Uefa.

The Poachers were shocked to receive a letter which seemed to claim they had also breached FFP rules.

They immediately appointed renowned financial expert Wayne Fleet to look into the matter.

He said: “Boston Town were naturally upset to see any mention of FFP, which can spell financial ruin for a football club.

“However, it was only when we read the document more closely that we realised it contained a major typing error.

“The letter was actually referring to regulations relating to FPF (Fishtoft Playing Fields) not FFP (Financial Fair Play).”

Boston Town will be holding a meeting on 1 April with the playing fields committee to discuss the matter further.

Mr Fleet said he had written to Sean Dyche and Nuno Espirito Santo suggesting their clubs double-check to make sure the same thing hadn’t happened to them.
