On this day 60 years ago, the wheels were set in motion for a new football club to be formed in Boston.
Sportsfunds (Boston) Ltd made a dramatic announcement on 8 July 1964.

The organisation had been set up 2 years earlier to manage a pool of money raised for the benefit of sport in the town.
Boston United’s resignation from the Midland League was the signal for the Sportsfunds directors to leap into action and safeguard the future of football in Boston.
Their 8 July statement said: “It was decided to promote a new team to be known as the Boston Football Club.”
They revealed they had approached the Mayflower Sports Club for permission to use their ground as a temporary home.
Within 3 days the brand new club had applied for membership of the Lincolnshire League.

Boston United seemed to be caught off guard by the speed of events.
Having initially also intended to apply for the Lincolnshire League, they decided to drop out of senior football altogether.
Their chairman Ray Middleton told the Lincolnshire Standard: “We understand that these people have applied for Lincolnshire League membership and, as they seem to have the money and the backing, we have decided to withdraw. We shan’t stand in their way.”
For Boston FC, it was all systems go.
