60 years: Tattershall Road timeline

As Boston Town celebrate their 60th anniversary, Simon Ashberry picks out some of the club’s highlights of the last 6 decades.

July 1964
Boston Football Club are formed after a row over money matters which leads to Boston United opting out of senior non-league football. Under Paul Todd, the new club win the Lincs League title in their first season.

October 1970
A record crowd of 2,700 watches FC lose to Boston United in the FA Cup, the only competitive meeting between the two clubs.

May 1975
Manager Bill Curry leads Boston FC to win the Midland League title for the first time – and in dramatic fashion, edging out Eastwood Town on goal average.

November 1976
Under the guidance of Bob Don-Duncan, the club reach the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup, playing Barnsley away in front of a crowd of more than 6,000.

January 1980
A best ever FA Trophy run sees Boston FC knock out holders Stafford Rangers before losing to eventual finalists Mossley in a replay.

October 1981
The Poachers lift the Lincs Senior A Cup for a third time in a row. The previous season, they’d won it as part of a league and cup double, winning the Midland League championship as well.

May 1989
Manager Bill Brindley ends an eight-year trophy drought as FC become champions of the Central Midlands League and win the Lincs Senior A Cup as well for good measure.

January 1990
Mick Vines takes over as chairman from Bill Stanwell. The club join the United Counties League the following year and are subseequently renamed as Boston Town.

March 1994
With Bob Don-Duncan back as manager, the Poachers come agonisingly close to making an appearance at Wembley, losing narrowly in the FA Vase semi-final to Taunton.

May 1995
Another dramatic title win as Boston Town are United Counties League champions for the first time, this time on goal difference ahead of Raunds Town.

May 2001
The Poachers win the United Counties League title on a nailbiting final day, finishing one point ahead of Cogenhoe.

April 2007
Gary Bull completes a record-breaking season with a remarkable 57 goals in 53 appearances, including five hat-tricks. He goes on to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 201 goals in seven seasons.

April 2009
The Poachers win the Lincs Senior Trophy for the first time in 19 years, beating Winterton 2-0 in the final held at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank stadium.

September 2017
Gary Frost’s giantkillers beat three teams from higher leagues as the Poachers embark on their best FA Cup run for four decades.

March 2020
Under Gary Edgley, Boston Town reach their first cup final for more than a decade – but the Lincs Senior Trophy showpiece game is never played because of the coronavirus pandemic.

April 2023
Martyn Bunce steers his side to victory in the Lincs Senior Trophy, their first silverware for 14 years.
