It’s with great sadness that we have to report that our former captain Mick Parsons has died.
He memorably led Boston FC to the Midland League title in 1974-75 under manager Bill Curry and chairman Bill Stanwell.
Phil Scothorne, who played in that title-winning side, said Mick had been an inspirational captain.

“He was a great captain, top footballer and if anyone was giving me a rough time, he would sort them out! A true legend, I will miss him,” he added.
Another former team-mate Paul Bownes said of Mick: “He was one hell of a captain. Big, strong and well respected.”
Paul wrote fondly of Mick in the recent Boston Town history book To Be A Poacher.
He recalled how Mick had intervened during a players’ trip to Jersey during that title-winning season over a weekend when there was no fixture.
“Wives and girlfriends were included – but what we didn’t reckon on was that we were expected to train twice a day every day,” said Paul.
“There was an unease in the camp and the night before the final day captain Mick Parsons stood up during dinner to take the two Bills – Curry and Stanwell – to task about not having any time with ‘the girls’. There was a definite hush. After some negotiation they agreed. The trip obviously worked as we lifted the league title that season!”
Club historian Simon Ashberry said: “This is really sad news. Mick was the first captain I can remember watching when my dad started taking me to Tattershall Road.
“He actually wasn’t at the club for all that long but he made a big impact in his time here. Winning the Midland League in 1974-74 was a significant achievement because it was the first time we’d been champions since the early days of the club almost a decade earlier.
“As well as having Phil Scothorne and Paul Bownes alongside him, Mick also played with some other great players such as Dennis Reeson, Paul Evans, Dennis Beatson and Dave Poplar.
“That photo of him being carried aloft by his team-mates with the Midland League trophy will always remain an iconic image of this club’s history, which is why we chose it for the main picture on the cover of our book Come and Sit With Us.“
