Ahead of our play-off semi-final against Eastwood CFC, club historian Simon Ashberry assesses the 2024-25 season and attempts to put it into context.

It’s true to say Boston Town will make history when they kick off against Eastwood tomorrow – no Poachers team has previously taken part in the promotion play-offs.
However, play-offs are a very recent innovation – something that none of Bob Don-Duncan’s sides ever had the chance to have a crack at, for example.
It’s certainly a memorable achievement for the club in our 60th anniversary season. But there are other aspects to how things have gone for the Poachers in 2024-25 that are worth highlighting.
- We finished the season with 5 straight wins – our best run of the campaign
- Our 4th place was our highest finishing league position since we were runners-up in 2006-07
- No team had a better defensive record than us – only Bourne Town matched us by conceding 35 goals
- Our defensive record at home was comfortably the best in the division – we let in just 13 goals in 19 league games at the Mortgages For You Stadium
- Harry Limb has scored 35 goals this season – so far – the best individual tally at this club since Gary Bull in 2007-08
- Since Christmas, we’ve lost just one out of 17 matches – here’s how the form table looks since then:

Eastwood are likely to start as favourites to win tomorrow. Not only do they have the advantage of playing on their own artificial pitch at Coronation Park, but they’ve also beaten the Poachers home and away in the league already this season, keeping a clean sheet on both occasions.
Let’s hope we can upset the odds and go onto next week’s play-off final – but whatever happens, it’s certainly been a season to be proud of.
