Club historian Simon Ashberry reflects on a momentous season that very nearly delivered promotion for the first time in the club’s history.
It was a season that started with a whiff of nostalgia in the air.

Chris Chapman unveiled our impressive history wall and former players from different eras gathered in August for a celebration event to mark the 60th anniversary of our club.
By the end of 2024-25, we had a new manager in Chris Funnell – and the dawning of a new era of success for Boston Town seemed tantalisingly close.
The play-off final at Bourne Town was a remarkable occasion, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted.
A showpiece game watched by an incredible 1,781 supporters was a fitting end to our 60th anniversary season. To put that in context, there are only three recorded instances of the Poachers having played in front of bigger crowds in their entire history.

To take not one but TWO supporters’ coaches to Bourne was a testimony to how far this club has come.
With just 15 minutes to go on Saturday, the Poachers were leading 1-0 thanks to Jordan Nuttell’s predatory goal, snaffling up Harry Limb’s dangerous cross – we were within touching distance of being promoted to the Northern Premier League!
It wasn’t to be in the end. But amid the disappointment was the sense that this was just the start of something.
Roll on 2025-26!
