Sean Dyche might never have made a competitive first team appearance for Nottingham Forest – but he certainly wore their red shirt in friendlies.
And one of them was at Tattershall Road 37 years ago.
Dyche, who has just been appointed Forest manager, was a raw 17-year-old when he turned out for a youthful Forest side in a pre-season against the Poachers in August 1988.
He was so little known in those days that his name is given as “Ditche” in a hand-written note on the match day programme.

Also in their team that day were future internationals Mark Crossley, Steve Stone as well as Phil Starbuck and Nigel Jemson.
The Boston FC team lined up against them included Graham Gox, Alf and Stu Park, Gary Goddard and Dean Dye.
Both teams went on to have successful seasons in 1988-89.
The Poachers were champions of the Central Midlands Midlands League Supreme Division and also lifted the Lincs Senior A Cup, while Forest won both the League Cup and Full Members’ Cup.
Dyche never made the breakthrough into Brian Clough’s first team and left for Chesterfield for 1990.
