Funnell: ‘Lost for words’

A shell-shocked Chris Funnell has described his side’s defeat against Heanor Town as a “complete and utter capitulation”.

The Boston Town boss was interviewed after the game by groundhopper and vlogger Jon Warren.

Speaking to Jon’s GamingBlomp channel, Funnell said he felt lost for words after the Poachers threw away a 1-0 interval lead to lose the game 5-2.

“I didn’t really see that coming at half-time,” he said.

“To concede five in a game, let alone 12 minutes, is so unlike us.”

Funnell questioned his players’ desire, mentality, attitude and application and said: “They need to sit down and question themselves.”

Funnell added that he probably also needed to reflect and question himself.

The Poachers remain second in the United Counties League Premier North table, despite back-to-back defeats.

Since taking over from Martyn Bunce in October 2024, Funnell has the highest win ratio of any manager in the club’s history.

His side now have three home games in a row to get back to winning ways. They next play Gresley Rovers at the Mortgages For You Stadium on Saturday (14 February). Kick-off will be 3pm.

After that they have home fixtures against Newark & Sherwood on Saturday 21 February and league leaders Sherwood Colliery on Saturday 28 February. Kick-off for all three will be 3pm.
