Funnell hails ‘sensational’ Poachers

Boston Town manager Chris Funnell has described his side’s performance against league leaders Sherwood Colliery as ‘sensational’.

They secured a dominant 4-0 win in the top of the table clash.

Funnell told Charlie Fytche in his post-match interview: “The result is obviously one thing. I am absolutely delighted with the performance, to be honest. I thought the performance was different class, from the first minute all the way through really.

“We didn’t have it all our own way because Sherwood are very good and they had moments where they penned us in and we had to defend.”

Funnell added: “I challenged the lads before the game to say if someone was here to watch us for the first time today, what would they say about us after 90 minutes – and, well, based on that, it would only be positives.”

The Poachers are now five points behind Sherwood in the United Counties League Premier North table with seven games to go.

They now have a tough run of three consecutive away fixtures – at Kimberley MW on 7 March, Melton Town on 14 March and Clay Cross on 21 March. Their next home game will be against Eastwood CFC on Saturday 28 March.
