Poachers 4, Skegness 0

Boston Town are one win away from being crowned league champions for the first time in a quarter of a century.

Their dramatic title challenge will reach its climax when they take on Hucknall Town at home in their final match of the season on Saturday (11 April).

Here’s how the top of the table looks with one game left

A win would see them lift the United Counties League Premier North title and seal a historic first ever promotion.

They went into their Easter Monday derby against Skegness level on points and goal difference with Sherwood Colliery.

But a thumping 4-0 victory, coupled with Sherwood’s 1-1 draw at AFC Mansfield, has left the Poachers in the box seat.

They couldn’t have asked for a better start against local rivals Skegness. Harry Limb lifting it over the visiting keeper to make it 1-0 after just a minute.

Not only did Chris Funnell’s men hold that lead until the interval, but news filtered in just before the break that AFC Mansfield had also gone a goal up against Sherwood.

Limb was at it again within three minutes of the restart, chesting the ball home from a corner. Matt Cotton got in on the act after 53 minutes when Limb smashed a ball at goal for his hat-trick but the ball deflected off Cotton and nestles in the net.

In the 89th minute, Bruno Andrade was fouled in the box and Cotton stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot to make it 4-0.

With Sherwood Colliery equalising late on but being held 1-1, it’s advantage Boston Town.

A big crowd is expected at the Mortgages For you Stadium on Saturday to witness what they hope will be a historic afternoon for the Poachers. Kick-off will be 3pm and the match will be sponsored by Boston Town Supporters’ Group.

Town: Portas, Ging, Smith (Priestley), Tate (Archer), Ford, Wilson, Andrade, Maddison (Gibbons), Munton (Nuttell), Limb (Bayliss), Cotton
