After Boston Town clinched the United Counties League Premier North title, Simon Ashberry puts their achievement into context.
- This is Boston Town’s ninth league title in their 61-year history – but it’s first time they’ve ever been promoted
- On the previous eight occasions, there was no automatic promotion system in place
- Chris Funnell becomes only the fifth manager to have won a league title for the club – the others have been Bob Don-Duncan (on four occasions), Paul Todd (two), Bill Curry and Bill Brindley
- It’s the first time they’ve been champions since they won the United Counties League in 2000-01
- That 25-year gap is by far the longest between winning league titles – previously, the longest they’ve had to wait was nine years between winning the Central Alliance in 1965-66 and the Midland League in 1974-75
- In all, it’s the 21st piece of silverware the club have lifted since forming in 1964 – the 12 different cup competitions they’ve won include the Lincs Senior B Cup, Lincs Senior A Cup, Lincs Senior Trophy, Midland League Cup and United Counties League Cup
- The Poachers will have to wait find out which league they’re placed in for 2026-27, but it’s widely expected to be the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands
- It will be the eighth different league the club have played in, having previously been members of the Lincs League, Central Alliance, Eastern Counties League, Midland League, Northern Counties East League and Central Midlands League
- Boston Town will leave the United Counties League after 35 seasons, by far the longest stint they’ve had in any league. The next longest period in a single league was 14 seasons in the Midland League
