Match report by Tom Carter

Boston Town were knocked out of the FA Cup by Coalville Town, a team 2 leagues above them in a game where the opposition’s higher ability was shown on the pitch.

After last weekend’s close encounter with Lutterworth Town which ended in a 4-3 defeat, the poachers went onto win at Peterborough Northern Star 1-0 in the week with Fraser Bayliss scoring the only goal. This time, Boston were at home to Coalville Town in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. Could the Poachers cause an upset and knock out higher league opposition in the cup?

During the first half, the possession was balanced evenly between the two teams. Boston Town had to make a substitute midway through the first 45 minutes as Nick Jackson came off injured and was replaced by Mido Turki. Luke White had a chance for Boston Town after Harry Grigas set him up but the Coalville keeper saved well.

On the 30th minute mark, Coalville took the lead when a ball was delivered in and it was converted into the net by Tim Berridge. Just before half time, Boston had their best chance of the whole game when Lori Borbely played a great ball to Harry Grigas whose powerful shot rattled the crossbar. At Half Time Coalville Town led 1-0.

The second half began with Boston Town controlling the ball well but no real chances were created. Down the other end of the pitch, Coalville doubled their lead with Stuart Pierpoint headed in from close range in the 68th minute. With 9 minutes to go, the away team then got a penalty when Boston Town keeper, Travis Portas brought down Rhys Hoenes. Then former Accrington Stanley striker Billy Key made it 3-0 from the spot. Full Time was Boston Town 0-3 Coaville Town.

Boston Town are now out of the FA Cup but are in the FA Vase next weekend where they host local rivals Sleaford Town. Please come down and support the Poachers. But before that the team return to United Counties League action on Tuesday night where they host another rival team, Holbeach Town.
