Boston Town’s game at Heanor Town this weekend will be the first league encounter between the two clubs for more than 30 years.
They used to be regular opponents for more than two decades from the late 1960s – first in the Midland League, then the Northern Counties East League.
The last two league matches between the Poachers and Heanor were in the Central Midlands League in 1991. Two Gary Baines goals gave the hosts a 2-0 win at Tattershall Road but two Gary Wells goals weren’t enough in a 3-2 defeat in the return fixture.
The two clubs have met since then in cup competitions, with Heanor coming out on top on all three occasions – a 3-0 win in the FA Vase in 2001-02, a 3-1 victory in the same competition two seasons later and most recently a 2-1 success in the FA Cup in 2011-12.
