Easter Monday derby

Boston Town head up the coast on Easter Monday aiming for beat Skegness Town for the first time in 40 years.

The rivals only resumed playing each other 2 seasons ago after the seasiders dropped down to the Lincolnshire League for 3 decades.

Previously they had locked horns regularly in the old Midland League and produced some memorable tussles – not least in 1978-79 when Boston pipped their rivals to the league title on goal difference.

There were also famous wins for Boston in an epic FA Cup tie that went to a 2nd replay staged at York Street and a 4-0 victory the following year, when Mark Cox scored all 4.

Martyn Bunce’s side will be keen to register a first victory against Skegness since August 1983 when they beat them 4-1 in what was then known as the Lincs Senior A Cup.

Boston have failed to win any of their last 5 games against their coastal rivals. Since Skegness joined the United Counties League in 2021, there have been 2 draws and most recently a 4-1 defeat for the Poachers at the Mortgages For You Stadium on Boxing Day.

To add further spice to the derby, there are plenty of connections between the 2 clubs. Bunce previously managed Skegness, while George Hobbins joined the Poachers from them earlier this season. Several Skegness players have also been on Boston’s books, including Corey Cunliffe, Ben Davison and James Lambley.

Kick-off at the Vertigo Stadium is at 3pm. There will be commentary from Lincolnshire Non-League Radio – weather permitting. If it rains, they won’t be able to do so as there’s no suitable cover.
