What it means – in words

Many many thanks to all those who’ve sent their congratulations since the final whistle went on Saturday to confirm Boston Town as champions.

We’ve been overwhelmed by your kind words. So many clubs, former players and supporters have sent messages that we can’t reply to them all individually. But we’re grateful to you all – they’re much appreciated.

Here’s just a flavour of what people have been saying:

Mick Vines told BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Scott Dalton: “
Saturday was all about enjoyment. We’ve had so many years in the doldrums. We nearly folded a few years back. We stuck to it and now we’re reaping the benefits. It’s absolutely brilliant for everybody involved.”

Manager Chris Funnell told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:
“The last nine weeks have been intense. They’ve been physically and emotionally demanding, mentally demanding, so, yeah, I’m absolutely delighted we’ve got over the line with it.”

Richard Crunkhorn, our man on the mic, who also runs the 100 Club:
“The last two seasons have been amazing with Chris Funnell in charge – last season play-off final, now champions this season. Congratulations Chris and your back-up and the whole squad of players. Everyone has worked so hard for this.”

Rupert King, Boston Town youth secretary:
“Well done to everyone involved – the players and coaches, of course. A great group of directors who I couldn’t be happier for. But also to the stewards, groundsmen, bar staff. The guys marshalling the car park and turnstile. Everyone who chips in on bonfire night. The photographers and raffle ticket sellers. Everyone involved in a proper community club. Well done.”

George Wright, one of this season’s match day sponsors:
“What an amazing bunch of lads, you’ve done yourselves proud this season. Well done to Chris and all the back room staff keeping them all match fit. Whatever happens now, they can’t take away the fact we’ve been champions. Each and every one of you deserve this day and to be crowned champions is incredible. I am proud to be a supporter of this team, fully deserved.”

It was such a big occasion that Dave Holmes even flew in from Barcelona for the game.

A special shout-out should also go to Lori Borbely and Chris Chapman who are such a massive part of the club but weren’t able to be there. You were missed!
