Poachers face Cleethorpes

Boston Town will play their first ever Lincolnshire Senior Cup tie next month.

The Poachers have been drawn at home to Cleethorpes Town in the preliminary round.

The game will take place at the Mortgages For You Stadium on Tuesday 28 July, kick-off 7.45pm.

The winners will then have a mouthwatering match-up away at Boston United in the quarter-finals.

Boston Town have previously competed in the Lincs Senior Trophy and won it in 2009 and 2023. They also won it six times when it was known as the Lincs Senior A Cup and also lifted the Lincs Senior B Cup once.

Now Chris Funnell’s men get to compete in the county’s top knockout competition alongside Championship side Lincoln City and League Two Grimsby Town.

Boston Town’s club historian Simon Ashberry said: “This is a signficant step for the Poachers. As well as playing our league football at Step 4 next season, we also have the chance of playing the big boys in the county senior cup.

“Cleethorpes will be very tough opponents, having finished 9th last season at Step 3 in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. But if we can beat them, it would set up a historic tie against Boston United.

“Remember, the two Boston clubs have only ever met once before in a compeitive match – that was in the FA Cup in 1970.”

The Poachers had originally been paired with Spalding United in the preliminary round but the Lincolnshire FA had to re-draw it after Bourne Town were reprieved from relegation and reinstated to the county senior cup.
