Boston Town manager Chris Funnell says his side have to recover their levels quickly after they suffered a second successive defeat.
Just days after their long winning run was ended, they were beaten again, this time by the team they edged out in last season’s race for promotion.
Sherwood Colliery started brightly as they sought revenge for missing out on the United Counties League Premier North title to the Poachers.
There were few clear-cut chances before the interval until Harry Limb twice went close as the home side finished the first half strongly.
Town, who handed a debut to new keeper Theo Lavery, signed from Ilkeston Town, also had a brief flurry at the start of the second period but went behind when Nathaniel Crofts slotted home neatly after 61 minutes.
Chris Funnell threw on last season’s top scorer Matt Cotton, who’d been rested, but Sherwood held on to register an upset.
After the game, Funnell said his side had to recover their levels quickly ahead of another busy week.
“Our last two performances have fallen short of our own expectations,” he said.
But Funnell urged supporters to stick with them and added that a positive result at Carlton on Tuesday (25 August) would mean Town had made a great start to their first campaign at Step 4.
On Saturday (29 August), the Poachers are at home to Nantwich Town in the FA Trophy and on Bank Holiday Monday (31 August), Bourne Town are the visitors in the Northern Premier League. Both kick off at 3pm.
