Weekend off for the Poachers

Boston Town have a blank weekend because their scheduled opponents Nuneaton Town are in FA Cup action.

The Poachers next play on Wedneday 9 September, when they face a long away trip to Coventry United in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Their next home game will be against Belper Town, also in the league, on Saturday 12 September. Kick-off at the Mortgages For You Stadium will be 3pm.

Wednesday’s game will be the Poachers’ first ever fixture against Coventry United, who were formed just 13 years ago. The club came about as a response to Coventry City’s decision to move their home matches to Northampton.

Covenrty United have had a meteoric rise in the last 13 years, starting in the Midland Combination Division Two and winning three promotions to reach Step 4.

They play at the Nick Newbold Stadium, which also plays host to Coventry RFC rugby union fixtures. The ground saw a record attendance of 5,250 in February 2025 for a Premiership Rugby Cup match between Coventry RFC and Leicester Tigers.

On Saturday 12 September, Boston Town will face Belper Town for the first time since 2006. That was an FA Cup tie which saw goals from Lori Borbely and Leigh Taylor hold the Nailers to a 2-2 away draw before the Poachers lost a close replay 2-1.

The two clubs previously met each other regularly from the 1960s to the 1980s, first as members of the Midland League and then the Northern Counties East League. Belper Town have been in the Norhern Premier League since 1997,
