Poachers 3, Rugby Borough 2

Boston Town are rapidly becoming the comeback kings of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division.

This time it was Tom Siddons who struck a dramatic late winner to beat Rugby Borough.

Remarkably it’s the second time in three home games that the the Poachers have won 3-2 after trailing 2-0.

Chris Funnell’s men bounced back from the disappointing 4-1 midweek defeat at bottom markers Long Eaton to topple a side who had been in third place at the start of the day.

But things didn’t look promising when Cam Collins pounced after less than a minute and a half to give the the visitors the lead at the Mortgages For You Stadium.

After that early setback, the Poachers came back strongly and enjoyed the bulk of the play before the break.

The action was stop-start, with two Rugby players receiving treatment after colliding with each other and visiting keeper Marcus Bald bizarrely leaving the pitch for glove repairs just as the home side were preparing to take a corner.

The Warwickshire side doubled their lead after 33 minutes through a neat angled finish at the near post by Emanuel Nnaji.

But the hosts hauled themselves back into the game seven minutes later when Zak Munton’s shot was deflected into the net by Matt Cotton.

Boston had a glorious chance to equalise just three minutes later but Bald came out to make the block and a free-kick was awarded after Cotton’s follow-up effort was scrambled wide.

But new signing Aziz Mhamdi, who joined the Poachers this week from United Counties League Premier South side FC Peterborough, marked his debut with a goal after 54 minutes, fighting off two defenders before slotting home to level it up.

And sub Tom Siddons snatched all three points with an 89th-minute strike from range after fine build-up play involving the industrious Fraser Bayliss.

Boston Town now find themselves in sixth place in the table but face two tough away games in a row. On Tuesday (6 October) they travel to Bedworth to play fifth-placed Nuneaton Town (7.45pm kick-off), followed by a visit to leaders Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday (10 October). That one will kick off at 3pm.

Town: West, Bayliss, Smith, Tate, Ging, L Wilson (Zaluzinskis), Munton (Siddons), Gibbons, Cotton, Van Lier, Mhamdi (Graves); unused subs: Burdass, Houlston
