Boston Town play their first competitive game as a Step 4 club this weekend when they play Daventry Town away in FA Cup.
It feels strange to be travelling to Northamptonshire knowing it’s the home side who will be the underdogs!
Daventry were a Step 4 club themselves until 3 years ago – and the last time they played in the same league as the Poachers, they were champions.
But now they ply their trade as a Step 5 club in the United Counties League Premier Division South and will be hoping to pull off a giantkilling of sorts.
Chris Funnell’s side will be favourites to progress in the preliminary round tie on Saturday (8 August) – but they know Daventry will be a tough nut to crack.
The Poachers have enjoyed a successful pre-season campaign, winning 4 of their 6 matches and losing just one – and that was against Step 2 side Spalding United.
By contrast, Daventry have already played 3 league fixtures – and lost them all.
The winners of Saturday’s tie will be at home in the preliminary round to Sherwood Colliery or Moulton on Saturday 22 August. They will also receive £1,125 in prize money.
Boston Town Supporters’ Group are running a coach to Daventry which will set off from the Mortgages For You Stadium at 10.45am.
Tickets are £18 for supporters’ group members and £20 for non-members. Under 16s are £10.
