Boston Town earned a precious point in a goalless draw after a long midweek trek to the West Midlands.
But Chris Funnell’s side could have snatched victory at the death.
They had a huge chance in the final minute of added time when a cross from Kris Zaluzinskis fell to Ted Gibbons but he pulled it wide.
Jake West had an impressive debut in goal and played his part in the Poachers’ first clean sheet of the season.
Funnell was forced into a late change after arriving at the imposing Nick Newbold Stadium, which has recently hosted crowds of more than 5,000 for rugby union fixtures..
Finley Ging took the place of Luke Wilson in the starting line-up – and there was a further blow for the visitors after 33 minutes when Layton Maddison had to come on to replace the injured Harry Limb.
Town forced chance after chance in the early stages. Tom Siddons pulled his shot over the bar after just two minutes following a Fraser Bayliss interception.
Bayliss himself went close twice, first rifling his shot over the bar after being set up by Harry Limb and then shooting inches wide on a quick counter attack.
After the interval, Maddison tried to loop one over the Coventry keeper but it went narrowly over as the game remained on a knife-edge.
At the other end, West – who’s already the 4th different keeper to appear in Boston Town colours this season – produced two fine saves to deny Charlie Faulkner and Leo Stone.
The point was enough to move the Poachers up to 9th in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands table.
On Saturday (12 September) the Poachers are at home to Belper Town. Kick-off at the Mortgages For You Stadium is 3pm and the Boston Town Supporters’ Group will be the match day sponsor.
On Tuesday (15 September), Boston Town are at home to Cleethorpes Town in the Lincs Senior Cup. kick-off for that one will be 7.45pm.
